Description

These are individual long, cylindrical cells, with dome shaped valve. (The tips look a similar to a bullet)

Presence of silicerous setae which, are long and thin, and often referred to as a crown. The setae at the valves differ, with one ring of spines on one valve, and a combination of marginal long (barbed) and short hooked clawed spines on the opposite. This is known as heterovalvy.

Girdle is composed of many bands.

Chloroplasts numerous with rounded or oval bodies.
