Macroecology and climate change impacts
Monitoring and understanding change in the oceans is considered a critical area of many marine policies and strategies as the anthropogenic and global climate pressures on the marine environment are set to increase over the coming decades. Considering the importance of this theme and SAHFOS's scientific expertise in the field of macroecology and climate change impacts this will continue to be a primary scientific focus. The theme includes elements focusing on prediction, understanding abrupt changes in marine ecosystems and identifying particular vulnerable organisms (including calcified organisms), communities and regions to environmental change. Biological indicators of climate change impacts predominantly follow the research foci of biogeographical and phenological responses.
