Environment, pollution and ecosystem health
Climate change and biodiversity loss are both impacting the functioning of our seas and are possibly already reducing the complexity of marine ecosystems. This may lead to changes in an ecosystem's resilience and stability which may further exacerbate and accelerate the decline in health of marine ecosystems due to other anthropogenic influences. This is a broad scientific theme encompassing many policy-led issues on the health of the marine environment and shows the value of the CPR survey as a critical and unique multi-assessor of the marine environment at large ecological scales. A major component of this scientific theme will be to produce more robust and sensitive indicators of environmental changes and ecosystem health.
