A practical workshop involving microscopy and the identification
of some our common British zooplankton species.
This is a one day taster session and not a complete
course.
Using microscopes we will be looking at some preserved
zooplankton specimens from the MBA's L4 monitoring station near the
Eddystone reef off Plymouth. We will be looking at:
Copepods
Chaetognaths
Cladocerans
Fish larvae
Siphonophores
Decapod larvae
Euphausiids
We will demonstrate some of the most important identification
features and how to speciate some of the common zooplankton species
using identification keys and literature.
The workshop will be held:
Thursday 21st July 2011 at the
Resource Centre, Marine Biological Association, Citadel Hill,
Plymouth, PL1 2PB.
First session will be 10.00 - 12.30
Second session will be 13.30 - 16.00
We can accommodate 10 students in each session on a first come
first served basis.
Please bring along any dissecting equipment you may already have,
note paper and pencil.
