An- Tiki raft makes it safely across the Atlantic and collects plankton samples for the CPR survey! - published on 4/11/2011 4:05:37 PM

An-Tiki

A group of four retired men from the UK have voyaged 2,763 miles across the Atlantic on a wooden raft called An-Tiki under a single sail.  The adventurers included 85 year old Anthony Smith a retired science correspondant for the Daily Telegraph and former television presenter, who was inspired by Thor Heyerdahls book about his journey across the Pacific Ocean on the Kon-Tiki raft.

His fellow adventurer David Hildred expressed an interest in collecting plankton samples for SAHFOS whilst on their journey.  Clare Buckland provided them with a sampling plan and Steve Coombs at the MBA provided the plankton net and sampling equipment.  The plankton samples will be used by  our analyst team in our efforts to 'go global' and kept in our reference collection for further use.
