| Phytoplankton
are the start of the FOOD CHAIN in the
oceans Phytoplankton
are the plants of the sea, they convert the sunlight
(energy) into food by PHOTOSYNTHESIS (foto-sin-the-sis)
and are therefore the PRIMARY
PRODUCERS of the sea. This process
releases OXYGEN into the air which is used by humans
and animals to breathe.
|
| As you
can see from the above pictures, Zooplankton graze
on the PHYTOPLANKTON…….JUST LIKE COWS GRAZING IN
A FIELD. Larger carnivore zooplankton eat the smaller
zooplankton, which are then food themselves for
larger predators such as: Arrow worms, Crabs, Basking
Shark, Fish and Whales. But remember basking sharks
can eat all types of plankton. |
