Plankton blooms in the summer and spring. Sometimes the blooms are so large they can be seen by satellites orbiting the earth.

The word plankton means ‘to wander’ and comes from the Greek word ‘planktos’.

Some plankton release a chemical that can help make clouds.

The ‘White Cliffs of Dover’ are made up of millions and millions of dead phytoplankton
