Why are Plankton so important?

Site Index | Email Us

Phytoplankton make their food just like plants on the land. This is called PHOTOSYNTHESIS (foto-sin-the-sis).
Phytoplankton absorb Carbon Dioxide and release Oxygen. In fact phytoplankton produce as much Oxygen as all the trees in the world, and they remove 3 billion tonnes of Carbon Dioxide every year.
Plankton are food for fish, basking sharks, corals, shellfish and some whales.
