Meta Data


SAHFOS can supply you with metadata from the CPR database, which can show the number of samples per month and year available in your area of interest. A list of species we have identified on CPR samples can be found here. All you need do is e-mail us  with the area of interest, and the species you are interested in. It is our policy to make metadata widely available, to promote the survey, its database and the scientific research carried out on it.

As an example:
A researcher is interested in the plankton of an area in the North Sea, over the period 1990-1995. The area selected is described by the following coordinates:

As a preliminary exercise, the number of samples taken in the area by month can be extracted from the CPR database:

These results indicate a good coverage of the area, and the researcher may wish to make further enquiries. We could then provide the locations of the samples within the specified area, and provide a plot of these.  This plot is for the entire period, though the sample metadata can be provided by month.  Further sample details, such as the time, date and location, can be produced if required. The on-sample 'abundance' of any of the taxa identified in the Survey can be retrieved and monthly figures provided.
