|
To celebrate the one hundredth anniversary of the birth of Sir Alister Clavering Hardy M.A., DSc., LL.D., FRS. (1896-1985) SAHFOS organised an exhibition in 1995/96 covering his life, work and art at three venues, Plymouth Art Gallery, Oxford University Museum and Hull Museum. The exhibition was arranged around a series of themes outlined in 12 panels that illustrated the major activities of his life, including childhood, experiences in the Northern Cyclist Battalion in the First World War, research on herring feeding at Lowestoft in 1921-24, the 1920's 'RSS Discovery' Expedition to Antarctica, plankton research at Hull and Aberdeen, Oxford and the Cotswolds in 1946-85, holidays and Christmas cards and his work on religious experience on retirement. |
| Many of his publications are now collector's items. His works include The Open Sea: The World of Plankton (1956), The Open Sea. Fish and Fisheries (1959), the Living Stream (1963), The Divine Flame (1966), Great Waters (1967), A Cotswold Sketchbook (1984), The Spiritual Nature of Man (1981), Darwin and the Spirit of Man (1984) and Weekend with Willows (1987). |
